In commemoration of the 2020 centennial anniversary of the Green Section, the USGA has partnered with Rutgers University and Mountain View Seeds to develop and release two unique new bentgrass varieties: Piper and Oakley. Named in honor of the original USGA Green Section agronomists, Dr. Charles Piper and Dr. Russell Oakley; Piper and Oakley embodies the USGA Green Section commitment of continued variety development for improved sustainability in golf. Bred by Dr. Stacy Bonos at Rutgers University, Piper and Oakley will provide golf course superintendents not only the best traits available, but also a connection to the legacy of greatness in golf course agronomy.
